Ahmed Musa, Super Eagles skipper, says the weather in Egypt is hampering the team’s fluidity on the field play at the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nation.
The Eagles vice captain however admitted to the TheCable that the team is working on improving their scoring abilities.
There have been concerns over the Super Eagles low scoring form lately.
The three-time African champions have only been able to score three goals while conceding once in their last five matches.
The Eagles won 1-0 against Egypt, 0-0 against Zimbabwe, in friendlies in Asaba, respectively.
Senegal pipped them 1-0 in Ismaila ahead of their 2019 AFCON preparation.
The Gernot Rohr’s men only managed a lone goal margin each against their first two opponents, Burundi and Guinea at the African showpiece in Alexandria.
“The weather has been affecting the team,” Musa told TheCable.
“It is not fun playing in this hot weather here but the most important thing is that we keep getting the maximum points, and we have qualified for the knock out round.
“The team may have not scored many goals but as you can see, we are working to do our best to score more.”
The Al-Nasser FC of Saudi Arabia winger revealed that the goal of the Eagles in the 32nd AFCON edition is to win the title.
“We talk amongst ourselves before coming to Egypt that what we need to achieve is to win the trophy.
“We are not in Egypt for sight seeing or to enjoy the weather.
“The only thing is that we have to believe in ourselves whether others do or not.
“Our believe in ourselves is the key to achieving our goal in Egypt.
The former Leicester city player told TheCable that his side is not scared of whoever their opponents maybe in Egypt be it Senegal, Morocco or Egypt.
“The Super Eagles as a team is not scared of any team at this competition. To tell you the truth, other teams are very scared of us.
“In 2013, everyone lost hope of the team winning against Cote D’Ivoire in South Africa but because of our self belief that we could then, we did it.
“So, this time around we are not afraid of any team.”
The Super Eagles will take on Madagascar in the last group B 2019 AFCON match in Alexandria on Sunday.
